Lindenhurst Eye Physicans & Surgeons is proud to offer our patients CustomVue, an outstanding breakthrough in the art and science of laser vision correction. This safe and effective method for correcting nearsightedness and astigmatism has been approved by the United States Food & Drug Administration. The FDA clinical study shows that CustomVue can potentially bring you better vision than contacts or glasses. The CustomVue procedure is designed to specifically target each patient’s individual and unique vision imperfections to help improve the quality of vision under a variety of conditions, from daylight to indoor to night vision.

How Does It Work?
Through the use of WaveScan® technology, CustomVue creates a map of your vision that customizes the laser treatment for your exact optical correction. The original WaveScan technology was developed for use in high-powered telescopes to create a more clear image of distant objects in space. This same technology now helps to measure imperfections in the eye 25 times more precisely than the methods used in the past to help determine prescriptions for eyeglasses or contact lenses. Since this vision correction is being applied by a laser, the level of precision and accuracy is impeccable With WaveScan technology, we can custom tailor a correction for the unique characteristics of your vision unlike glasses or contact lenses.

What are some of the results of CustomVue to date?
In the FDA study, one year after the VISX CustomVue procedure:
In addition, many participants reported that they had clearer, better vision both during the day and at night, compared to their vision with glasses or contact lenses before the procedure.

What does better than 20/20 mean?
20/20 is the current standard for normal in vision. But, as shown in a clinical study, individuals with the CustomVue procedure have the potential to see even better than 20/20. In fact, one year after the CustomVue procedure nearly 70 percent of clinical study participants saw 20/16 or better.

PreVue Your CustomVue
The PreVue Lens essentially lets you “test drive” your potential new vision before undergoing the CustomVue procedure. First, we’ll perform a complete medical evaluation of your unique medical eye history to determine whether you are a good candidate for the CustomVue procedure. Once it’s determined that the procedure may be of benefit, a WaveScan® measurement will be taken to map the unique characteristics of your vision. This map allows us to confirm whether you’re a good candidate for the procedure. We will also perform other diagnostic tests that will help us address your specific vision needs. We may choose to supply you with PreVue Lenses, which will help you see what your potential vision can be before the CustomVue procedure. The PreVue plastic lenses are placed under the VISX® laser. Using the information from your WaveScan, your unique vision correction is placed on the lens. The lens is then fitted in a trial frame so that you can see your potential visual results.

Who is a good candidate?
If you are 21 years of age or older and wear glasses or contacts to correct nearsightedness and/or astigmatism, you may benefit from CustomVue.
